If you have an older smartphone model, and you know that the new version is out, it does not necessarily mean that the new version will be available for your smartphone or tablet. In case you don’t know which version of Android you have on your device, go to Settings, scroll down, tap on About phone (or About tablet, About device), and you will see the Android version there.
It is advisable to backup your data before you proceed, and also, make sure to charge your device. Connect to a Wi-Fi network (this is much better option than the mobile data because you will avoid any additional charges).
To update the software, do the following:
- Navigate to Settings
- Scroll down and tap on “About phone” or “About tablet” or “About device”
- Next, click on “System update” or “Software update” – this depends on the device, and it is usually located at the top of the screen
- If there is a new software version available, you will be asked if you want to Install it, tap Yes (on some devices Install or Install now)
- The new version will download, it will be installed and your device will reboot.
